Breast Reconstruction

Deciding to pursue breast reconstruction is a highly personal and individualized process. Breast reconstruction can be accomplished either with breast implants, or with tissue from elsewhere on the body. Tissue can be taken from the abdomen (DIEP flap), the back, or other locations on the body. Deciding which avenue to take requires a detailed discussion with your surgeon and greatly depends on personal preference.

Breast Implant Reconstruction

When breast implants are used for breast reconstruction there are many options, and avenues to achieving the final result. Oftentimes, at the time of mastectomy a tissue expander is placed, which is a temporary implant-like device that can be expanded to bring back some of the size and shape of the previous breast. Several weeks to months later, this expander is exchanged for a final breast implant.

Rectus Diastasis Repair

Usually a result of pregnancy, but not always, rectus diastasic involves separation of the abdominal muscles causing a bulge, or a rounded abdominal contour. This widening of the abdominal muscles and fascia can be repaired with suture techniques to improve abdominal contour.

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

With advancing age excess skin and fat of the under-arm can accumulate. This area is often unresponsive to diet and exercise. A surgical excision of the excess tissue can be performed to restore the youthful contour of the arms. Often combined with liposuction, this procedure can provide great relief for a distressing problem.

Thigh Lift

A common concern among patients is excess skin and fat of the medial thigh. Surgical excision of this tissue can be performed to trim the contour of the thighs, and lift the skin that has descended over time.

Labiaplasty

A very popular topic in contemporary plastic surgery. Female genital rejuvenation is a complex and sensitive topic and a number of treatment modalities exist. Labiaplasty involves surgically trimming excess labial tissue which can improve aesthetics, and help with pain/discomfort during exercise and other activities.
